Connection Problems (Juno 5.0)

Choose one of the following issues below:

Connection Problems
General connection problems
Busy signal before you finish dialing
Busy signal after you finish dialing or an operator voice
When you connect to the Web, your Web browser does not open up
When you connect to the Web, your Web browser goes to the wrong home page

General connection problems

Fixed for Juno 3.11 and later - Juno 3.09 is incompatible with certain access numbers. If you are experiencing connection problems with Juno 3.09, please upgrade to the latest version of Juno, which you can download here.

To check which version of Juno you have, go to the Help menu and select About Juno.

Busy signal before you finish dialing:

If you hear a busy signal before Juno finishes dialing your access number, then your access number is not set up properly - you may need to dial an extension to get an outside line, or you may be using the wrong call-waiting disable code.

You can review your access number setup by going to the Connection menu and selecting Access Number Setup and Selection.

Busy signal after you finish dialing or an operator voice

If you hear a busy signal after Juno finishes dialing your access number, or the voice of an operator, then the access number you are dialing is currently experiencing problems. You may want to try again later or try a different access number. If you have already selected more than one access number, Juno will cycle through to the next number after trying the first one. If you would like to un-select the problematic number, click on the Connection menu and select Access Number Setup and Selection.

When you connect to the Web, your Web browser does not open up

This problem usually occurs when Windows has no default browser set, so Juno does not know which browser to bring up when you connect to the World Wide Web.

To set a default browser:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
  3. Select the Programs tab.
  4. Click Make Default button under Default web browser section to setup Internet Explorer as your default web browser.
  5. Check the box next to When Internet Explorer starts, prompt me if it's not the default web browser.
  6. Click OK.

Internet Explorer 6.x or earlier:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. The first screen you see should ask you whether you would like to set Internet Explorer as your default browser. Click Yes.
  3. If this screen does not appear, go to Internet Explorer's Tools menu and select Internet Options.
  4. Click the Programs tab.
  5. Check the box labeled Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser.
  6. Click OK to save your change.
  7. Exit and restart Internet Explorer.
  8. If Internet Explorer is not already your default browser, it will prompt you to make it so. Click Yes.

When you connect to the Web, your Web browser goes to the wrong home page

When you use Juno to connect to the World Wide Web, Juno will make use of the browser that is set up as your default browser in Windows. If Juno opens a browser which belongs to another Internet Service (it may have the provider's logo on it, or it may force you to go to the provider's home page), then that browser is set up as your default. Often such browsers come pre-installed on your computer when you buy it.

To change your default browser:

  1. Install the browser you want from your Juno CD-ROM. After this, the browser icon should appear on your screen.
  2. Click the browser icon. (You do not need to be connected to the Web for this - just ignore the error message that occurs when the browser tries to retrieve a Web page.)
  3. The following window will appear: This browser isn't currently your default browser. Do you want to make it your default browser?
  4. Click Yes. The next time you use Juno to connect, it should open up the browser you have selected.
