Juno resets my port speed to 9600 baud (Juno 5.0) If you have a high-speed modem that is capable of high port speeds but are only getting 9600 bps, there is most likely a poor serial port on your computer that cannot handle the transmission of high speeds. Juno is usually able to detect such serial ports during modem setup and automatically sets the port speed to 9600 baud. You will have to check the serial port on your computer to see if you have an older UART chip. If you have a 16550 UART, your modem should run reliably. Older UARTs, however, such as 8250 or 16450, are not fast enough for today's modems, and you may not be able to run set your port speed to higher than 19,200 baud. In this case, try setting the port speed lower and lower until you find a speed that is reliable for you. To check your serial port in Windows 95/98/NT: - Make sure your modem is on.
- Click the Windows Start button, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, double click Modems.
- In the Modems Properties window, click the Diagnostics tab.
- Select your modem from the list and click More Info. Your computer will start communicating with your modem.
- The More Info screen will appear. Look at the UART label to see what kind of UART chip you have.
