Pulse dialing not working (Juno 5.0)

If you are not able to get Pulse dialing working in Juno, first, make sure your dialing options in Juno are set correctly for your particular telephone setup.

To check your dialing options:

  1. In Juno 1.x, go to the Options menu and select Dialing Options.
In Juno 2.x, go to the Connection menu and select Access Number Setup and Selection.

If your dialing options are set correctly, the problem may be occurring because your modem can only dial "tone" or because your telephone line only supports tone dialing.

To test your modem's pulse dialing capabilities, please take the following steps:

  1. Exit Juno and open HyperTerminal.
  2. In the HyperTerminal screen, type atdp, followed by a phone number (such as your own phone number). If you need to dial a 9 or another number to get an outside line, then type that extension before the phone number.
  3. If the modem dials using tone rather than pulse, the problem is most likely with your modem's dialing capabilities rather than with how Juno is telling your modem to dial.In this case, please contact your modem manufacturer or consult your modem's manual for more information.
  4. If your modem dials using pulse in HyperTerminal but not in Juno, please try to manually configure your modem as either a Hayes Compatible modem or a Generic modem of the appropriate speed. To do so this:

    a. In Juno 1.x, go to the Options menu and select Modem Configuration.
In Juno 2.x, go to the Connection menu and select Access Number Setup and Selection.

    b. Click the Manual Modem Set-Up button.
    c. For Modem, select the entry for a Hayes Compatible (or Generic) modem of the proper speed.
    d. For Com Port and Port Speed, select the Auto-detect option.

  5. If your modem will still not dial using pulse, your telephone line may not support pulse dialing. Please contact your local telephone company to check whether your line allows you to dial pulse.

For more information on using HyperTerminal, please consult your Windows user's manual.
