Manipulating Mail Folders (Juno 5.0)

With Juno 5.0, we added a folder button to the Read tab, just to the left of the Folder menu. This button is new to Juno 5.0, and it allows you to access your various email folders quickly and easily.

When you click on the button, you can choose from a list of actions. They are as follows:

Manipulating Mail Folders
Create Folder
Rename Folder
Delete Folder
Move to Folder
Copy to Folder

Note: All of these options are also found in the File menu, under Manage Email Folders.

Creating a folder

You can organize your messages by storing them in different folders. Juno has three system folders: the Inbox, the Deleted Messages folder, and the Sent Messages folder - but you can create up to 253 more folders.

Your folder names can be up to 32 characters long and can use any combination of letters, numbers, spaces, and symbols. Each folder name must be unique, but Juno distinguishes between uppercase and lowercase lettering for folders, so you can have a folder named Personal and another folder named personal.

To create a new folder:

  1. Click the folder button and click Create Folder.
  2. In the Create Folder box, type your folder name in the New folder name box.
  3. Click OK.

Tip: You can also create a new folder while you're in the process of moving or copying messages. Just click Move to Folder or Copy to Folder and replace the name of the selected folder with the name of the folder you'd like to create. When you click OK, Juno will ask if you would like to create a new folder.

Renaming a folder

After you create a folder, you may change your mind about the name you gave it.

To rename a folder:

  1. Click the folder button and click Rename Folder.
  2. In the Rename Folder box, select the folder you want to rename. The folder you select appears in the Old folder name box.
  3. Type the new name in the New folder name box.
  4. Click OK.

Note: Your folder names can be up to 32 characters long and can use any combination of letters, numbers, spaces, and symbols. Each folder name must be unique, but Juno distinguishes between uppercase and lowercase lettering for folders, so you can have a folder named Personal and another folder named personal.

Deleting a folder

You may decide you do not need a folder or the messages you have saved in it and want to delete it. When you delete a folder, the folder and the stored messages it contains are permanently deleted; they are not placed in the Deleted Messages folder.

To delete a folder:

  1. Click the folder button and click Delete Folder.
  2. In the Delete Folder box, select the folder you want to delete.
  3. Click OK.
  4. If the folder contains messages, a confirmation message appears. Click Yes.

The folder and all the messages it contains are deleted.

Note: You cannot delete your Inbox, Sent Messages, or Deleted Messages folders.

Moving a message to a folder

To organize your messages, you can move messages to different folders. For example, you can move all the messages you receive from your friends to a folder called Personal Mail. Moving a message moves the message from the current folder to the new folder.

To move a message to a folder:

  1. In the message list of the Read screen, select the message you want to move.
  2. Click the folder button, and then click Move to Folder.
  3. In the Move Message to Folder box, select the appropriate folder. The folder you select appears in the Copy message into box.
  4. To create a new folder to move the message into, type the new folder name in the Move message into box, or click Create New Folder.
  5. To keep a copy of the message in the folder you are moving the message from, select the Keep a copy in current folder check box.
  6. Click OK.

Tip: To move a message to a folder, you can also right-click the message, point to Copy Message to, then click the appropriate folder.

Copying a message to a folder

To organize your messages, you can place multiple copies of a message in different folders. Copying a message to folder places a copy of the message into the new folder while leaving a copy in the current folder.

To copy a message to a folder:

  1. In the message list, select the message you want to copy.
  2. Click the folder button, then click Copy Message to Folder.
  3. On the Copy Message to Folder screen, select the appropriate folder. The folder you select appears in the Copy message into box.
  4. To create a new folder to copy the message into, type the new folder name in the Copy message into box or click Create New Folder.
  5. Click OK.

Tip: To copy a message to a folder, you can also right-click the message, point to Copy Message to, then click the appropriate folder.
