Email Setup - Microsoft Outlook Express 5.x

MS Outlook Express 5.x Configuration

  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  1. Click on the Add button and select Mail.
  1. In the Display name text box, type your name.
  1. Click Next.
  2. Check the circle next to I already have an email address that I'd like to use.
  1. In the E-mail address text box, type your email address.
    For example:  memberid@mybluelight.com
  2. Click Next.
  3. From the My incoming mail server is drop-down menu, select POP3.
  1. In the Incoming mail server box, type pop.mybluelight.com
  2. In the Outgoing mail server box, type authsmtp.mybluelight.com
  3. Click Next.
  4. In the Account name box, type your email address again, all in lower case.
  1. In the Password box, type your password.
    Note: your password is case-sensitive.
  2. If you want to have your password saved, so that you don't have to type it when checking email, place a check in the Remember password box.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Click on the Finish button to save your settings.

Note: Due to limits placed on your mailbox, you must complete the following steps to prevent your mail from being blocked or deleted.

  • From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  • Select the Mail tab and click on pop.mybluelight.com
  • Click on Properties and select Advanced.
  • Under the Deliver section, ensure that the Leave a copy of messages on server box is unchecked.
  • Click OK to save.

Note: To send mails over any connection, please enable the option " My server requires authentication". The following steps will help you in doing the same.

  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. Click the Tools menu and select Accounts.
  3. Select the Mail tab.
  4. Select your BlueLight Internet account by clicking on it once.
  5. Click the Properties button on the right.
  6. Select the Servers tab.
  7. In the Incoming mail (POP3) text box, type pop.mybluelight.com.
  8. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) text box, type authsmtp.mybluelight.com.
  9. Important: Under Outgoing Mail Server check the box next to My server requires authentication.
  10. In the Account name text box, type your email address with @mybluelight.com.
  11. In the Password text box, type your password.
  12. Click Apply and then click OK.
  13. Click the Close button to finish.

Note to BlueLight Internet members: In order to successfully send email through the BlueLight service, you need to setup up your SMTP settings to require authentication. To do this:

  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. Go to the Tools menu and select Accounts.
  3. Click the Mail tab and select your BlueLight mail account.
  4. Click Properties.
  5. Click the Servers tab.


  1. In the Outgoing Mail Server section, make sure the box next to My server requires authentication is checked.
  2. Click OK.
